Recall Metric

What is Recall?

Recall (also called Sensitivity or True Positive Rate) measures the proportion of actual positive cases that were correctly identified.

Formula

Recall = TP / (TP + FN)
  • TP: True Positives (correctly predicted positive)
  • FN: False Negatives (missed positives)

Interpretation

  • High Recall: Found most of the positive cases
  • Low Recall: Missed many positive cases

When Recall Matters

  • When missing positives is costly (e.g., disease screening)
  • Cancer detection (don't want to miss any cases)
  • Fraud detection (catch all fraudulent transactions)
