Metabolomics Data type
What is Metabolomics?
Metabolomics is the scientific study of chemical processes involving metabolites, which are small molecules (molecular weight < 1500 Da) present in cells, biofluids, tissues, or organisms.
What are Metabolites?
Metabolites are the intermediate or end products of metabolism. They include:
- Amino acids
- Sugars
- Lipids
- Nucleotides
- Small molecules from drugs or food
Applications in CMMI-DCC
- Biomarker Discovery: Identifying metabolites associated with health conditions
- Pathway Analysis: Understanding metabolic changes in disease
- Microbiome Interaction: Studying how gut bacteria influence host metabolism
- Dietary Analysis: Understanding how diet affects health
