What is HB?
HB stands for Hemoglobin, the iron-containing protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
Normal Range
- Men: 13.5 to 17.5 grams per deciliter (g/dL)
- Women: 12.0 to 15.5 g/dL
What Abnormal Values Mean
- Low HB: May indicate anemia, blood loss, or nutritional deficiencies
- High HB: May indicate dehydration, lung disease, or certain blood disorders
